Urbanization modifies the natural functioning of the habitat, affecting the diversity of species, and it also significantly affects the survival of populations, leading to displacement and in many cases extinction. Despite this, the fragments or patches of forest that result from the urbanization process They provide habitat for the establishment of animal and plant species, among which are bromeliads and associated macroinvertebrate communities. A comparison of the taxonomic diversity and composition of terrestrial macroinvertebrates associated with bromeliads was carried out in a rural site and an urban site. The study was carried out in the Río Blanco Protective Forest Reserve and in the urban area of Manizales, a total of 61 bromeliads were collected, from which the terrestrial macroinvertebrates were extracted for later identification, the habitat variables of each bromeliad were also measured. such as: the number of leaves and width, the size of the bromeliad and the organic matter content. A total of 1937 terrestrial macroinvertebrates belonging to the phylum of Arthropoda, Mollusca, Annelida and Onychophora were collected, classified into 8 classes, 24 orders, 82 families and 249 morphospecies of which, 103 belong to the urban site and 167 to the rural site. Significant differences were found between the habitat variables of the rural and urban site (rank-MANOVA; F1,59=4.69, p <0.001). On the other hand, urbanization influenced the richness of terrestrial macroinvertebrates present in bromeliads (Student's t; t59=5.90, p<0.001, df= 59), but not the abundance (Student's t; t59=1.48, p =0.14, df= 59), and finally the species composition of terrestrial macroinvertebrates differed between areas (ANOSIM; F1,59 = 7.63, p < 0.001, df= 59). In conclusion, urbanization reduces the biodiversity of terrestrial macroinvertebrates; however, bromeliads play an important role in this type of anthropic processes since they maintain macroinvertebrate communities in the tank and among their leaves.
