fitness, blood pressure and resting heart rate in an administrative work population.
Methods: experimental design, 46 inactive administrative employees according to the
International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), were randomized into two groups
of 23 participants. The control group received no exercise intervention, the experimental
group participated in HIFT for 12 weeks (3) times per week. Physical fitness variables,
blood pressure and resting heart rate were measured before and after the intervention.
Results: The HIFT group significantly improved VO2max, muscular endurance of upper
and lower extremities and abdominal region in the post-test (p = ,000), (p = ,004) and (p
= ,000) respectively. The control group decreased VO2max and had a negative effect on
cardiovascular and muscular endurance. Systolic blood pressure obtained an effect size
(g= 2.00), resting diastolic BP (g= 1.18) and the other variables such as walking (g=-
1.44), Push-ups (g= -1.58) and Squat test (g= - 1.28). heart rate went from (78.0) beats
in the pre-test to (69.0) beats post-test (p = ,000).
Conclusions: Incorporation of HIFT in the work environment significantly improves
components of physical fitness in clerical employees. Future research is suggested to
further investigate the potential benefit of HIFT in office environments.
