desarrollo de la actividad minera. eng:The following document presents the technical environmental diagnosis of illicit exploitations.
of mineral deposits in the department of Caldas, carried out as an academic practice in the
Regional Autonomous Corporation of Caldas (Corpocaldas) precisely in the Subdirectorate of
Environmental Evaluation and Monitoring, the diagnosis was prepared from the information
collected in the period 2010 – March 2023 from technical reports carried out in field visits
to respond to (PQR's) related to illicit mining. As a first step, the
documentary review of technical reports along with the compilation of information
previously carried out in the corporation, in order to create an official database of points of
illicit mining in the department of Caldas where it will undergo updates to points
subsequently identified. The mining points are then classified.
illegal activity reported in the department using three criteria which are: mineral of interest, type
deposit, and exploitation system. Therefore they were grouped into 4 categories which are: Gold
alluvial, lode gold, construction materials (drag), and construction materials (Quarry),
This classification was made taking into account the infrastructure, mining elements,
extraction of the mineral, and the environmental effects that each of these categories involves.
In total, 417 illicit exploitations were identified in the department of Caldas distributed
in the 27 municipalities of the department, but they are mainly concentrated in
Anserma, Riosucio Neira, Aguadas and Philadelphia, with an affected area intervened
approximately 62 hectares throughout the department where approximately 60% of the area
reported is found in open pit alluvial gold exploitations such as pits and quarry types.
The reported mining activities were carried out without complying with legal specifications and
techniques established by the regulations and by the departmental environmental authority, without evidence
14
environmental management measures that seek compensation, correction, mitigation or
prevention required by current legislation, in addition to putting the lives of staff at risk
mining for not having the necessary mining safety measures to mitigate the risk in the
development of mining activity.
