The objective of this research was to evaluate the impact on soil in an ultra-high-density grazing (PUAD) livestock system, with the intention of analyzing the physicochemical changes generated in a particular soil. The study was conducted at Hacienda La Cascada, located in the municipality of Victoria, department of Caldas - Colombia, where ultra-high-density grazing is practiced. For the study, 32 hectares were divided into three areas: Vega, Ladera, and Quebrada. The pasture in the area consisted of a mixture of Brachiaria Brizanta Marandu (Brachiaria brizantha), Tifton 78, and Guinea (Panicum maximum). 211 Bon breed animals were used (100 cows with an average weight of 420 kg, 50 pregnant heifers with an average weight of 300 kg, 60 calves with an average weight of 140 kg, and 1 bull weighing 650 kg). Thirty soil samples were taken and analyzed monthly for six months in the two types of PUAD pastures established and in transition, and the forested area located on the property boundaries was used as an absolute soil. The samples were analyzed in the Soil Conservation Laboratory of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Caldas, where analyses of bulk density (hereafter BD), organic matter (hereafter OM), infiltration (hereafter I), and textural classification were performed. Additionally, three types of statistical analysis were carried out: analysis of variance stratified by sampling (1 to 6); the effect on soil of the established and transition PUAD systems was evaluated in terms of depth and its linear interaction on OM; then, a linear regression analysis of OM on sampling was used to compare the slopes between the systems. Furthermore, using only the information from 0 to 5 cm depth, the effect of the system on infiltration and bulk density was analyzed in each sampling. The results obtained from the six months of sampling show that PUAD systems apparently tend to equal the forest system over time, in terms of OM and BD; therefore, it was observed that PUAD provides benefits for OM. It was concluded that BD does not translate into an improvement in infiltration. Although the objective of PUAD systems or short-duration grazing systems is commendable, objective and significant data is required to demonstrate that these systems are a viable option for Colombian livestock farming.
