Introduction: The distribution in rural zones of Colombia of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictusvectors, implicated in arboviral diseases such as dengue, yellow fever, chikungunya, and Zika is still little known. Objective: To determine the distribution and presence of A. aegypti and A. albopictus on rural districts in the area of influence of the Sogamoso Hydroelectric Power Plant in Santander, Colombia. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out in 33 rural districts of six municipalities of the Department of Santander: Betulia, Girón, Lebrija, Los Santos, San Vicente de Chucurí, and Zapatoca. For the entomological monitoring, traps with the attractant BG-Sentinel® were used for 24 hours indoors and aside from houses. Simultaneously, manual vacuum cleaners and flashlights were used to inspect indoor, aside, and outdoor dwellings. The search for immature stages was also carried out in natural and artificial hatcheries with water. The specimens were identified with dichotomous keys in the Entomology Laboratory of the Instituto Colombiano de Medicina Tropical-Universidad CES (ICMT-CES). Results: A total of 112 samples were collected (88 specimens of A. aegypti and 24 of A. albopictus). A. aegypti were collected from indoors and aside of houses. A. albopictus was found aside and outdoors. Conclusions: The presence of A. aegypti and A. albopictus was recorded in the rural area of Santander. These findings would be the first record of A. albopictus in the rural area of Santander, Colombia.
