A cause around childhood, shaped by social actors outside the State and external institutions in the field of child protection, began to take place in Argentina under the new figure of ‘child subject of rights’by the late 1980s. In the context of this new initiative, the discourse of children’s rights would be used to demolish the existing bureaucraticlegal structure based on the 10903 Law of Patronage of Minors from the early twentieth  century. This article focuses on the conformation of this new cause and raises three initial questions on which it attempts to shed light: first, who the actors involved in it were; second, which were the main topics and  arguments on which it was built; and, finally, which group of actors these new activists of children’s rights  sought to oppose and why.
