This work is based on the “hypothesis of the power possessed by the vacuum” or the blank space in the various representations of the recent traumatic past and in the exercise of memory. To reflect on this, two cases will be presented and discussed. On the one hand, the series of photographs included on the website of Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo, and, on the other hand, Gustavo Germano’s photographic essay, Ausencias (Absences). In both cases, the void is not only a testimony of an absence, as a trace or vestige, but it also constitutes a denunciation, while claiming the right to identity of a generation that is still a pending debt for the whole Argentine society.
