Dropout is a multifactorial phenomenon, approached from various conceptions, which indicates its complex character. Therefore, it is very important for universities to have a broad knowledge of the different student factors that lead to dropping out. The Objective is design and build an early warning information system to prevent the phenomena of university dropout and course retaking, that is originated in academic factors. The Methodology his project involves developing the following procedural phases: - Collection of historical student academic information. - Identification through the application of Data Mining, of patterns that cause potential course retaking and student dropout. - Structure and analyze data bases to design early warning reports of potential course retaking and students drop out. - Implementation of the early warning system of potential course retaking and student dropout. The main result is an early warning system adaptable to the Colombian university, through the identification of important patterns by data mining for the improvement of protocols aimed at student retention. The main function of educational institutions is to train people for society, an objective that is affected by the entry rates into the system and aggravated by the phenomenon of course retaking and dropout.
