According to the World Health Organization (WHO), low birth weight is understood as a newborn weighing less than 2500 grams (1). This condition represents an important cause of perinatal morbidity and mortality and is considered a public health problem, since its presence means an increased risk of the appearance of some pathologies in childhood and adulthood, with an impact on a social and economic level. in the nations (1). Different instruments have been developed to classify birth weight, such as the tables of the Colombian Federation of Perinatology -FECOPEN- adapted to the Colombian population (2). On the other hand, the INTERGROWTH 21 study proposes an instrument developed with various populations worldwide, seeking to minimize the influence of the characteristics of each of these groups (3, 4,5). Objective: To establish the diagnostic concordance between the tables of estimated fetal weight of FECOPEN vs INTERGROWTH21. Methodology: A retrospective cross-sectional diagnostic concordance study was carried out. All the cases of births during the year 2019 in the city of Manizales registered in the live birth certificates were taken, and they were ordered according to the weight at birth in percentiles applying the FECOPEN tables and according to INTERGROWTH21 in each case, and agreement was sought between both tools using Kohen's Kappa. The data were recorded in the Excel 2016® program. Statistical analysis was performed with the SPSS 22.0 program. Results: A sociodemographic characterization of both groups was carried out and it was found that the average age of the mothers of low-weight newborns classified with both tools was 26.1 years. In both groups of low-weight newborns, the majority of cases were female, the educational level of the mother, in most cases it was technical average with 34.8% for FECOPEN and 34.9% for INTERGOWTH21. In both groups, the most common type of delivery was simple with more than 95% of the cases, in the same way in both groups the area of residence of the mother with the highest number of cases was municipal capital with more than 90%. Regarding gestational age, the highest number of cases captured according to both tools were 39 weeks. A statistically significant relationship was obtained between low birth weight according to INTERGROWTH and the mother's age There was a higher prevalence identified by the INTERGROWTH21 tables and a kappa index of 0.687 between both tools, which indicates that they have a good concordance, however they cannot be considered fully concordant since the kappa value should be higher. at 0.8, this shows us that the two tools have important differences. Conclusions: The diagnostic agreement between the FECOPEN vs INTERGROWTH21 estimated fetal weight tables is good, with a kappa index of 0.687. Key words: low birth weight, fecopen, Intergrowth. | eng |
